NUTRITION POLICY
In accordance to Part 4, Division 4, 56 of the Child Care Licensing Regulations 56, a licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (e) Written policies and procedures respecting food and drink to be given to children
At Jiji Children’s Learning Centre our policy is to establish a pleasant and proper atmosphere in which children can enjoy their noon time meal and snacks. Our goal is to promote the development of healthy food habits and to provide nutritious morning and afternoon snacks that will be prepared following the Canada’s Food Guide. The menu for each day will be posted in the information board and we follow the Child Care Licensing Regulation in accordance to Part 5, Division 3, Menu planning and food services 69
1. A licensee must ensure that menu planning takes account of all of the following:
- The need of the person in care, including their ages, levels of activity, the requirements of any diets, and any matters that may affect the ability of persons in requirements of any diets, and any matters hat may affect the ability of persons in care to consume, or safely consume, food and drink;
- The food preferences and cultural backgrounds of the persons in care;
- Seasonal variations in food, and diversity of food texture and colour
2. The licensee must ensure that person in care are provided with snacks in addition to meals, as necessary to meet the needs of persons in care
3. A licensee must ensure that persons in care who are absent from the community care facility will be provided with meals and snacks necessary to meet the needs of persons in care
4. A licensee must ensure that persons in care are given sufficient time in which to comfortably consume meals and snacks
In accordance with Section 48 of the Child Care Licensing Regulations
★ We respect a child’s food preference and cultural background.
★ We never force a child to consume any food or drink.
★ Water is available at all times during the day.
★ Food and drink are not used a s a form of reward or punishment for children.
★ Parents must inform us if their child has any food allergies.
★ If child is sick and needs a special diet, the parents will have to provide it.
★ We ensure that children are not fed by means of a propped bottle.
★ Children are always supervised while consuming food or drink
Lunch
Families are asked to provide a nutritious lunch. A small portion of a few items is a good idea because it allows for a choice. Candy, chocolate, chips or pop is discouraged.
Snack
We provide minimum 2 food groups each snack as morning and afternoon.
E.X) Morning: Grain product with fruit & veggies
Afternoon: Milk and altenatives with fruit or Grain product
